How to Use Jumper Cables

As a car owner, you may have at one point in time found yourself with a car battery that has lost its charge. Below are the steps on how to charge a car battery using jumper cables:

  • You will need another car to with a charged car battery to park in front of your car.
  • Make sure both cars are turned off and connect the red (positive +) cable to the battery that needs to be charged and the red (positive +) cable to the charged battery.
  • Connect the black (negative -) cable to the charged battery and the black (negative -) cable to a metal surface on the car with the battery that needs to be charged to ground it.
  • Start the car with the charged battery and let it run for a couple of minutes, then start the car with the battery that needs to be charged and let it run for a few minutes to make sure the battery gets a good charge.
  • Remove the black (negative -) cable from the car being charged and the black (negative -) cable from the car with the charged battery.
  • Remove the red (positive +) cable from the car being charged and the red (positive +) cable from the car with the charged battery.
