Tread and Pressure Affect Tire Performance

Getting the most from your tires requires attention inside and out. Proper inflation and tread are the two keys to tire performance. Rotating tires regularly will help tires wear evenly, and the tire replacement and repair team at Gullo Mazda of Conroe can help.

Inflation can affect both performance and tread. Too much air (over inflation) will cause the tires to bulge and ride on the center of the tread, limiting contact with the road. Too little air (under inflation) puts more pressure on the outside edges of the tire and can add friction that makes your car less efficient. Over or under inflation will cause wear patterns in the tread of your tires.

Tires work best with maximum contact and grip. Tread, the pattern of usable rubber on the surface of the tire, provides that. Tires should have at least 1/8 inch of tread. If you can insert a penny in the tread, upside down, and see all of Abe Lincoln's head, you need new tires. In Conroe, our team will be happy to answer any questions you have about tires or any other automotive issues.
